How We Write

At Peach Pear Plum, we understand the framework for children’s writing based on three domains: Conceptual, Procedural, Generative

Conceptual

When children learn that writing has a purpose and is meaningful through communicating ideas and stories, such as recognition of symbols and the words that join them (a red octagon with STOP).

Procedural

When children learn the mechanics of writing letters and numbers and eventually write their names and fine motor dexterity strengthens.

Generative

When children can string words to make phrases and sentences. These ideas can be written by a student or dictated to a teacher.

There are SO MANY iterations of communicating and each one is meaningful and validating to young learners.

Topic Teasers fill our room and inspire young writers. If your child is unsure of what they want to write, we have lots of “story starters” that can help. We want children to engage in what they are interested in, but sometimes there’s uncertainly, and that’s okay. Your child’s journey will be as individual as they are.
